'Teching' the Deck

About

The 'Teching' the Deck is an awesome little feature of this blog that will have a list of current viable cards that can be added into any/most decks. Also, there will be strategies and combos to be applied for certain archtypes or themes(Karakuri, Mermail, Spellbooks, etc). This will be a continually growing page of basic information. If further information needs to be brought for certain combos or strategies, one of the members will write a feature post to help further go into the explanation of the cards. If there are cards that need to be listed that aren't on this page, post a comment below, and the team will look into the card and determine it's strength within the current meta.

Building the Deck

When starting from a blank list or idea for a deck, I like to ask myself two questions: Will I be playing aggressively or defensively? This will set a tone for when you start the deck building process. Generally I have played aggressively with most of my decks because that is what I like to play; you may want to play differently. Once you get the basic theme or skeleton down for your deck, find what makes the deck work! Don't focus on anything else, just find what the basic theme or strategy of the deck is and condense that down to roughly 3 to 5 cards needed for the core strategy or element of the deck.. Once you do this, you can focus on supporting cards. Take for example, Karakuri decks: These decks focus on maintaining field presence with key stun cards(Naturia Beast or Landoise) and having the ability to 'blow-up' or spam the field at any given time. The core strategy or element of this deck is through Karakuri Komachi and the Karakuri Basics. Without those cards, the deck would be a bunch of random cards threw together. After you find this basic strategy in your deck, you can focus on supporting cards to help your deck and make it your own.

The next few sections will help you build onto your deck and find what supports your strategy or theme. Keep in mind that this list will continually grow and post your comments for cards that may or may not be mentioned. We will try to write articles for the staples and techs when they will need further explanations.

Enjoy :D
